Family Violence Intervention &

Education Sessions (FVIES)

Upcoming Sessions in 2024:

July 9 7 pm - 9 pm

October 8 6 pm- 8 pm

The Family Violence Intervention and Education Session is a 2-hour, court-ordered class designed to decrease violent behavior in misdemeanor offenders of family violence. Sessions are held the third Tuesday in the months of January, April, July and October.

  • Defendants are sentenced by the judge to attend the class which includes information about ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences), conflict skills, and stories from reformed offenders

  • Impact panels are a restorative justice approach to crime which recognizes that crime effects not only the offender and their victim, but the community at large. Through this realization, the well-being of all community members becomes central and a holistic strategy of repairing the harm and rebuilding relationships becomes necessary

  • FVIES is not designed to replace proper treatment for Domestic Violence. It is designed to supplement or to be a precursor to formal Domestic Violence Treatment

  • Payments collected from participants are used to assist victims of domestic violence and their children

What to know when attending FVIES

  • Pay $20 cash only upon arrival, change is not available

  • Doors close at 7 pm and will not be opened for people who are late

  • Class is located in the Sophie Moise room, in the Missoula County Courthouse, located by the northeast doors, by the bus depot on Pine Street

After the Session

  • The FVIES staff will email the court to let them know you have attended the session and also give you a certificate of completion

  • Criminal penalties may result in failure to complete this session as ordered

NOTE: You are registered for the class once the judge sentences you to attend

Feedback from FVIES participants:

It was informative and eye opening.
I learned I need to be accountable for my own actions.
I had no idea how much violence and negativity can actually affect your brain development as a child.
I need to take a ‘time-out’ when things start to get heated.
